''This is an intense, gorgeous, succulent wine that is different from most Vouvray's of this intensity in that it has a lightness, a slender raciness, as if it's a lovechild of the Mosel and Vouvray. I just love this!'' Jancis Robinson
Hi Folks, The French varietal Chenin Blanc from its definitive home of Vouvray in the Loire Valley commands the respect of wine lovers around the World for its rare ability to produce age-worthy white wines that accurately reflect the unique limestone-flinty terroir that is a hallmark of Vouvray. One such example that more than lives up to this glorious tradition comes from one of Vouvray's rising stars Bernard Fouquet who has just released his 2019 Cuvée de Silex Vouvray produced from 55 year old vines. This has long been a feature at European Wine Store, but its only now getting its just rewards having knocked it out of the park with the quality produced in 2019 sending chills down the spine of the privileged crew who've tried it from the illustrious names below!
''This has fine ripe fruit with notes of quince with vibrant, racy acidity in the finish.'' 92 Points, Jim Budd, Decanter Magazine
''A dry chenin blanc from the heartland of this grape variety, the central Loire Valley.
The colour is very light straw and it has a discreet but sweetly honeyed, floral nose with a hint of apple pie, the palate noticeably sweet, fruity and almost rich with a trace of leatherwood honey. Good intensity and freshness, long carry. It finishes refreshing and near-dry, surprisingly so after the sweetness of the mid-palate.'' 92 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
"The nose is subtle at first, then come beautiful aromas of white flowers, tarragon, mint and a hint of smoke. Fresh, lovely pear and lime zest in the mouth, with underlying smoky notes, and a dry, balanced finish. Refreshing, lively and happy Vouvray.'' 91 Points, Jason Wilson, Vinous Media
''It feels very ‘classic’, pure, juicy, round and finishes with a clatter of crunchy acidity. Nicely done. From a rising star.'' 91 Points, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
''Lime and apricot, syrup-on-stones, silk ribbons wrapped deftly around honeysuckle florals. Oranges and so much fruit that it tastes almost like an off-dry Riesling. This is an intense, gorgeous, succulent wine that is different from most Vouvray's of this intensity in that it has a lightness, a slender raciness, as if it's a lovechild of the Mosel and Vouvray. I just love this!'' Jancis Robinson
