One of The World's Top Rated Sardinian Reds: Now Available in Australia!
At European Wine Store, we've always maintained a significant section in our store dedicated to wines from the beautiful Italian Island of Sardinia. Nearly every week, we get requests from Aussie's who've fallen in love with Sardinia's iconic varietals Cannonau (aka Grenache), Vermentino, and Carignano (Carignan) and it gives us a great pleasure to introduce a brand new Sardinian wine to our Sardinian section, which we hope you'll love as well...
The 2015 Agricola Punica Montessu Carignano blend comes from a joint-venture between Tenuta San Guido, Santadi and the late Giacomo Tachis ; known as the father of Super Tuscan wines.
So what's it like?
Well, the 2015 is medium-full bodied, made predominantly from Carignano, along with traces of Cabernet franc, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. It features a combination of floral, ripe black fruits, cherry, liquorice and vanilla notes and a hint of spice on its nose. In terms of style its quite silky, rich and well rounded, with a velvety texture and a mineral finish.
In regards to the 2015 vintage in Sardinia, it got the trusted stamp of approval from Vinous Media's Ian D'Agata ''the hot weather during most of the growth cycle of 2015 yielded red wines that are especially luscious and powerful, and potentially age-worthy.''
Here's what the international wine press had to say about the Agricola Punica Montessu Carignano blend:
"This is a dense and rich red with smoked wood, dried bark, tea and ripe fruit. Very flavourful. Full body. intense. Velvety tannins.'' 93 Points, James Suckling
''The wine reveals an inky blackish appearance with spots of ruby brilliance that shine from within. Cabernet-like aromas of dark fruit, spice, grilled herb and black olive are immediate and recognisable. The wine is layered and soft in terms of texture, and it grips the palate with firm intensity." 92 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate Magazine
''A stylish, fresh red, with spiced black raspberry and black currant fruit and accents of green olive, dried thyme and sweet smoke, finely meshed with long, supple tannins. Medium- to full-bodied, this shows good focus and length.'' 92 Points, Wine Spectator Magazine
