Puerto del Monte Mencia 2019

''Aromas of cherries, plums, raspberries, bay leaves and spice tones. It’s medium-bodied with sleek tannins and tangy acidity. Juicy and fruit driven.” James Suckling

Hi Folks, One of our favourite lighter-medium bodied European reds ''Mencia'' from the North Western Spanish region of Castilla y Leon is rightfully seen as one of Spain's best value Reds in terms of consistent quality, bang for your buck and its accurate representation of its mountainous terroir, this most definitely applies to its prized Bierzo appellation in Castilla y Leon. And one new edition to our Spanish range the Puerto del Mencia 2019 perfectly encapsulates the very best of Mencia and Bierzo from the very friendly price of just $25.90. This is a charming, elegant and fragrant Mencia produced from 45 year old vines at an altitude of 450-700 metres with delicious aromas of juicy cherries, blackcurrant, plums and deft touches of spice notes with a long succulent finish. Puerto del Monte translates to “mountain pass” and is named after the peaks of Las Medulas in Bierzo that glow a copper red in the evening sun.

''Dark garnet in the glass, this wine has aromas of blackberry, black currant, leather and Sevilla orange. There is a simultaneous sense of brightness and weight on palate with flavors of black cherry, blackberry, caramel, almond and mocha wrapped in a sheath of chewy tannins. Cranberry and butterscotch flavors arrive just in time for the long finish.'' Mike Desimone, Wine Enthusiast Magazine

''Vibrant with dark cherry and blackberry flavors and a hint of wild sage.'' Dave McIntyre, The Washington Post

''Aromas of cherries, plums, raspberries, bay leaves and spice. It’s medium-bodied with sleek tannins and tangy acidity.” James Suckling

''The mencia varietal creates wonderfully scented, deeply fruit-driven red wines alive with strawberry, blackcurrant and mulberry juiciness. Mencia has something of the character of serious Beaujolais, or Loire Valley cabernet franc, yet also a character of its own.'' Susy Atkins, The Telegraph (UK)

Puerto del Monte Mencia 2019 comes with very fine recommendations from James Suckling and Wine Enthusiast Magazine and is a delicious contrast with the more powerful wines many of us may have experienced from Spain.
