Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2016

''A bright, pretty Vino Nobile di Montepulciano showing rose petals, tulips and orange zest. Firm tannins, coating the vibrant fruit in sparkling acidity. Medium-bodied and crunchy on the finish.'' 93 Points, James Suckling

''Fragrant and loaded with finesse, this has enticing aromas of dark-skinned berry, violet, camphor and whiffs of tobacco. The vibrant palate has great tension, delivering juicy Morello cherry, crushed mint, orange zest and star anise framed in fine-grained tannins. It’s balanced, with bright acidity.'' 93 Points, Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast Magazine

''Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is one of Tuscany’s most iconic and historic red wines. Produced in a territory in the eastern part of the region, Vino Nobile is a Sangiovese-based wine that is generally categorized as one of the three great reds of Tuscany.'' Tom Hyland, Forbes.com

''Avignonesi's Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is my favourite example of that perfect Tuscan. This is one of the top three regions in the world for Sangiovese, and is probably the best example of complex red fruit expression.'' Emily Siegel, Forbes.com

''As good (or better) as the 2015s are, the 2016s have the potential to surpass them. A balanced growing season with no shock events produced a set of truly exceptional, highly promising wines. The 2016s are distinguished by their superb aromatic presence, silky tannins, layered fruit and fabulous sense of harmony.'' Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

''Tuscany remains the strongest beacon for the great wines of Italy around the world, and as a symbol for outstanding quality wines, it is only going to get stronger with the 2016 vintage.'' James Suckling

''2016 in Tuscany has produced wines with deep colour and impressive fragrance.''' Jancis Robinson

Avignonesi is one of the oldest wineries in Italy. Like many historic estates, the origins of this emblematic winery parallel the movements of the Catholic Church. In 1377, when Pope Gregory XI moved the papal residence from Avignon, France back to Rome, one of the noble families who followed him to Italy eventually settled in Montepulciano, Tuscany and founded Avignonesi. (That's today's history lesson!)
