Hi Folks, A critically-acclaimed 5 year old red Premier Cru Burgundy from an "outstanding" vintage for less than $100. Almost impossible these days. Lets begin with the vintage. The crops were small, but 2016 is a great vintage where "the best are better than 2015". And we all know how good the 2015s are. Robert Parker rates 2016 as an outstanding vintage. And it was. And these wines are now starting to blossom with 5 years of bottle age.
Château de Chamirey is without a doubt the gold standard Mercurey, Burgundy.

This is a great value red Burgundy that has complexity and depth. It's spot on medium-bodied and exhibits ripe, red and black fruits encased in ripe, silky tannins. Just like Burgundy should.
But look, I'm a retailer and I should point you towards the most respected and hardest marking critics in the world. Lines like this are common

"The 2016 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Roi is very promising, unfurling in the glass with notes of ripe cherries, plums, crushed cassis, licorice and candied citrus peel. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and juicy, with the mid-palate amplitude that one associates with this site, structured around fine-grained stony tannins and juicy acids." 92 Points, Wine Advocate Magazine
