''One of the purest expressions of Chardonnay can be found in the Maconnais. Its rolling hills produce lighter styles that are more approachable and refreshing like a chilled tree-ripened pear on a hot day.'' Marnie Old, Philadelphia Inquirer (USA)
Hi Folks, What a treat we have for you today! Yes, there has been a long absence since we've featured a White Burgundy, but we reckon today's offering will go a long way to make up for that injustice!. If you've always been fascinated by White Burgundy or maybe you haven't yet got up the courage to try one, than I advise you to keep reading as this one is a great little buy that has flown under the radar!
The White Burgundy of the Mâcon from Domaine Talmard befit the sunny disposition of its gentle slopes, its warm terracotta rooftiles and the rhythmic chirping of cicadas on summer evenings. This is an excellent starting-point to white Burgundy: soft and rounded Chardonnay showing fresh green apple, peach, lemon zest and almond notes. Unoaked to let the purity of the fruit shine through. It has all the texture and complexity you expect of white Burgundy, at a very reasonable price. With an almost crystalline purity and a subtle minerality.
The Talmard family have been growing wine in Mâcon through successive generations since the seventeenth century. The vineyards lie predominantly within the commune of Chardonnay, thought to be the geographical origin of the variety. At this point, the estate’s vines average 30+ years of age, and when you combine that with the consistent quality releases of Domaine Talmard, you’ve got the makings of a wonderful wine.
