Domaine Trenel Morgon Côte du Py Gamay 2018

Gamay from the renowned Morgon Côte du Py appellation in Beaujolais are generally seen as having the best terroir in the World and will normally set you back anywhere between $45 - $50+... but not today!

Hi Folks,  Earlier this year we had the pleasure of bringing you the Chateau La Grange Cochard Morgon 'Les Charmes' Gamay; at $35 it was one of our most requested Gamay from our entire store. That is all gone, however don't despair as your friendly folk at European Wine Store have done the hard work for you and I can confidently say we've found an excellent successor in the recently released 2018 Domaine Trenel Morgon Côte du Py. Gamay from the Morgon Côte du Py appellation in Beaujolais are generally seen as having the best terroir in the World and will normally set you back anywhere between $45 - $50+ but not here!.... We're very excited to have on show today the Domaine Trenel Morgon Cote du Py 2018  available for just $28.95 this offers incredible value for Gamay and has very much flown under the radar in Australia, (until now!)  Highlighted by aromas of ripe raspberry, black and morello cherries with hints of flint, clove and black pepper. This is a stylish Gamay bearing the hallmarks of the prestigious Morgon Cote du Py terroir with its classic structure, minerally and fruit-driven tones with a long and spicy finish. This can age gracefully for around 10 years, but it is approachable now (as well!)

In regards to the 2018 vintage its a very good one for Gamay!  William Kelley one of the lead writers from Wine Advocate Magazine has kindly provided his thoughts on it here: ''The 2018s are charming, fruit-driven, generous, supple; with inviting fruit.''

''The 2018 vintage is a rich one. Powerful and concentrated, with a lot of very attractive flesh, fine tannins and enough acidity to balance.'' James Suckling

''With depth and complexity that goes beyond mere deliciousness; a characteristic of Cru Beaujolais. The structure and minerality further define them as Morgon.'' Eric Asimov, New York Times

Well, that's my take!  Fine and fresh Gamay from a a very good vintage at a bargain price from the World renowned Morgon Côte du Py appellation in France that should be enjoyed by all lovers of good wine!
