Pala I Fiori Cannonau di Sardegna 2020

''Highlighted by aromas of red berry fruits, spice and rich cherries on the nose. A fleshy & juicy palate with tightly woven tannin and a clean finish.'' 92 Points, Sardinian Trophy, Falstaff Magazine, (Previous Vintage Review)

Hi Folks,  If you've visited our quaint little store in South Melbourne, you may have noticed we have an eclectic mix of wines from one of the world's most beautiful island's on Earth; Sardinia. Although Sardinia is famously known for its spectacular coastline and beaches there is another attraction which is beginning to turn heads with holiday makers and that's its signature Red Cannonau di Sardegna!  One of the finest producer's of Cannonau (a.k.a: grenache) comes from the family owned and award winning 'Pala' winery who have just released their 2020 edition of the Pala i Fiori Cannonau di Sardegna. In recent years this wine has really made seasoned wine writers and wine publication's like James Suckling, Eric Guido of Vinous and the German speaking World's biggest wine magazine Falstaff sit up and take notice of the quality coming from picturesque Sardinia. (as the reviews below attest to;)

"Look for notes of plums, blueberries, wild herbs, lavender and spices on show. It’s medium-bodied with ripe, fine tannins. Round and juicy with crisp acidity and some floral character. Flavorful, fruit-driven finish.” 92 Points, James Suckling (Previous Vintage Review)

“This is wildly perfumed, notes of ripe strawberry giving way to peppery herbs and exotic spice. This is softly textured, enveloping the palate in cooling wild berry fruits, as purple-tinged florals amass toward the close. Round tannins frame the expression, settling in under echoes of blackberry and lavender.” Eric Guido, Vinous Media (Previous Vintage Review)

As for me I really enjoy the ripe blackberry and red cherry fruits, along with hints of smoke, spice and cocoa, made in a medium bodied style with a long finish.  At just $24.99 this is a great value Winter Buy and is an excellent introduction to Sardinia's iconic Cannonau di Sardegna from of its top producer's who have been Tre-Bicchieri Awarded from Gambero Rosso Guide 3 years running 2019-2021!

''Sardinia is one of Italy’s best-kept wine secrets. It has many unique, well-made wines to offer wine lovers everywhere.'' Ian D'Agata, Vinous Media
