Hi Folks, With the 2023 Beaujolais Gamay's slowly entering our orbit we thought it wise to showcase our first offering from one of the true bright lights of French Reds, Fleurie! The Fleurie Cru appellation is often referred to as the Queen of Beaujolais; known for its elegance, perfumery, florals and silkiness. And for us their is isn't a more exciting example of the true essence of Fleurie than Bernard Metrat's La Roilette Fleurie Vieilles Vignes Gamay; a special Red of the highest quality from a small boutique family run estate owned and run by talented Beaujolais winemaker Bernard Metrat. The Bernard Metrat winery presides over 10ha of vines, the majority of which are planted in the renowned La Roilette sector where the red granite interspersed with clay layers produce wines that are well structured, mineral and full of charm. At an elevation of around 300 metres above sea level and coming from 60-90+ year old vines these prime-sited vines produce a Gamay of great class, freshness and character all in abundance. The wines of Bernard Metrat represent the best of Beaujolais: serious, delicious and age-worthy wines. A truly great discovery with so much charm. Enjoy!
''This Red comes from vines planted in the 1920s and 1930s, and it has amazing density and precision.’' Jamie Goode, The Wine Anorak
“This domaine is superbly successful: the wines are generously perfumed, ample and expressive of their terroirs. The vieilles vignes of La Roilette is exceptional.''Classement (France)
'‘Fleurie is one of the top Cru's of Beaujolais a wine of medium weight which has an ample flavour absolutely crammed full with this fruit and is overwhelmingly seductive.'' Clive Coates
