Hi Folks, As a generalisation, in Australia we tend to think the only sparkling wine made in France is in Champagne. This is not true with almost every region in France producing sparkling wine. And the goods news is, if you are willing to broaden your horizons (and I'm guessing you probably are if you're a subscriber to this newsletter) than there are more alternatives to Champagne than ever before, with many representing incredible bang for buck.
''Crémant has been around for ages, but now it appears to be having its moment in the sun. Sparkling wine’s popularity continues unabated and consumers are finding Crémant de Bourgogne to be a terrific budget-friendly option that offers complexity and finesse.'' Katie Kelly Bell, Forbes.com
''Creamy, with hints of citrus, beeswax and apple. Fresh and well-balanced; lifted citrus, clean mineral character, finishes with notes of freshly sliced green apple.'' Julie Sheppard, Decanter Magazine
Take today's featured wine as a prime candidate to show you the brilliance that exists outside of the Champagne spectrum. The Louis Bouillot Perle de Vigne Grande Reserve Cremant de Bourgogne is made the same way as Champagne, but it's from Burgundy and it certainly ticks all the right boxes for quality French sparkling. But just how does it taste? Well its got flavours of vanilla, almond, toasted bread, there are touches of honey and ginger bread too with great acidity and fine, consistent beads. It has become one of the biggest selling sparkling we've ever had at European Wine Store and we thought what better time is there than Summer and the Christmas Season!
