Hi Folks, For our first featured Bordeaux for 2024 we have the pleasure of bringing to you one of the most storied names in Bordeaux Chateau Clinet. Now Reds from this iconic winery can retail over $250 in Australia, which does put them out of reach for most people's budget, but don't fret as we have the excellent sub -$35 Ronan by Clinet 2018 a long-term project of Ronan Laborde, owner of the famed Château Clinet itself in Pomerol. Folks, this is a standout Red; just about every major wine writer has waxed lyrical about the sensations emanating from the 2018 edition with top wine scribe Jonathan Ray of Wine Spectator Magazine calling this ''another corker from Bordeaux that he couldn't resist knocking back'.. It's a Red that's swept the world, don't miss it...limited stocks for Australia only.
So what's it like? Well given the reputation that Chateau Clinet holds in mighty Bordeaux, this offers a lot more complexity than similar priced Bordeaux. Its oak aged to soften the tannins, the nose is expressive with plenty of raspberry, blackberry and cherry fruit with hints of violets. On the palate it is deliciously fruit-driven with good structure and excellent acid balance with fine notes of spices in the finish. Beautifully concentrated it finishes long and flavoursome. An excellent job from this top producer who built a winery in Pomerol specifically for the production of this little gem.
I should also mention that the previous release of Ronan by Clinet made the front cover of Decanter Magazine's Best Value Red in Bordeaux and named in the Top 15 Reds of the Year by our favourite wine writer Jeb Dunnuck, so it has a serious track record and reputation for the highest quality and value for money. This charming Bordeaux perfectly reflects the style and know how of the prestigious Château Clinet, whilst at the same time offering exceptional value. Buy with confidence Today!
''The 2018 Ronan by Clinet is another corker from Bordeaux, in this instance from fabled Chateau Clinet in Pomerol. 100% Merlot, its rich and concentrated with plush fruits and whiffs of chocolate. It will keep, yes, but I couldn't resist knocking it right back.'' Jonathan Ray, Wine Spectator Magazine
"This shows ripe and plush dark fruit on the nose with hints of baking spices, chocolate and smoke. Soft and polished with medium body and firm tannins. Delicious. Easy to drink now, yet better after 2023." James Suckling
''Juicy, lush black cherries and licorice in a forward, round, soft, luscious style.'' The WineCellar Insider
"Made by Château Clinet of Pomerol, this Merlot-based wine is another I've enjoyed in various vintages. There's a smooth and plush plum and chocolate character on the nose, dark and touched by espresso. It's all about swirling darkness really, but there are delightful little perfumed violet hints. On the palate the creamy, suave depth of the black fruit cashes the cheque promised by the nose: crushed black berries and a lovely support from the quite richly-framed tannins and acidity. Well-priced.'' Tom Cannavan
