Hi folks, for our first Dolcetto for 2026, we have a brand-new release from the highly regarded Chionetti winery in Piedmont. Chionetti's San Luigi Cru is a perfect study of the unique grace and vivacity of this Italian varietal and have become the ultimate reference point for terroir-driven Dolcetto.
So, what’s it like? Well, right out of the gates, it’s immediately inviting. The nose is vibrant and layered, offering ripe cherries and plums intertwined with delicate violet notes, underscored by subtle hints of earth and spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet beautifully composed, with velvety tannins that provide structure without overpowering. A lively acidity brings balance and freshness, carrying through to a long, satisfying finish. The 2022 vintage feels beautifully balanced—great to drink now, but it’s got the structure to age nicely too. It’s reassuring to know we’re not the only ones impressed. This new Piedmont red has already captured significant attention, with the 2022 release earning early praise from respected wine critics. As a result, this latest addition to our Piedmont collection is shaping up to be one to watch.
''There's an amazing purity to the black cherry and dark plum, which is lifted by enticing lavender aromatics. Fantastic value and a sneaky cellar candidate, too, with structured, fine-grained tannins that are well balanced by a juicy freshness.'' 91 Points, Geoffrey Moss, GismondiOnWine.com
''Aromas of black cherry, charming aromas of dry raspberry with primary fruit, blueberry, and plums. A silky palate, with fine tannins.'' Decanter Magazine
