Hi Folks, If you've enjoyed our past offerings of richer-style complex Italian Reds such as the multi-award winning Amaranta di Ulisse Montepulciano D'Abruzzo or the Masso Antico Salento Primitivo than today's newsletter suits you to a tee! We've recently acquired our allocation of the brand new 2022 Cielo e Terra 3 Passo Vino Rosso from Italy. This Blend made from predominantly Negroamaro with Sangiovese has rocked the socks off Italy's most well-known wine writer Luca Maroni who is inspired form with his review here:
''Here we are at the absolute top of value, in particular as regards to concentration. A block, a sea of extractive substances that determine its exceptional sensory performance from a quantitative point of view. Then the quality of the sensations, with the softness of taste’s enveloping effect of admirable palatal balance, the cleanliness, the clarity of the blackberry and the spices that increase in its spectacular scent. Among the best reds of the year, chapeau.'' 98 Points, Luca Maroni, Annual Italian Wine Guide 2023
I should also add that this Red has a tremendous track record in relation to consistent quality releases with the most recent vintages having won a combined 4 x Gold medals from International wine competitions. As a guide to the style of Cielo e Terra 3 Passo Vino Rosso, I think one of Australia's most experienced wine writer's Huon Hookenails it with his report here: 'It’s full-bodied, rich and balanced, with very good flavour and textural interest. ripe and attractive, with dark fruits and chocolate, tobacco, spices and a trace of blackberry. A generous, full-bodied red wine.'' Huon Hooke
As for me, I really like the 2022's intense and complex bouquet of fruit-driven notes of plum and spicy tertiary hints reminiscent of vanilla and licorice. It has great structure, softness and a long finish. That's my take!
