Talenti Rosso di Montalcino 2023

"A graceful and super-intense wine. Its layered complexity is sustained on the palate by velvety, silky tannins, refreshing acidity and a savory finish. Medium-bodied with tantalizing suppleness.'' 93 Points, James Suckling

When I'm asked to name my favourite Italian Red, the answer is always Brunello di Montalcino from Tuscany. It remains one of the world's great wines, although it's usually reserved for special occasions!

If a Brunello isn't quite within budget, then the next best thing is its little brother, Rosso di Montalcino — often referred to as the "Baby Brunello." Crafted from the same prized Sangiovese grown in Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino is designed to deliver earlier-drinking enjoyment while retaining much of the character and pedigree that makes the region so famous.

Montalcino is regarded as the world's most revered home of Sangiovese, and that reputation comes with a premium price tag. A quality Rosso di Montalcino will often set you back anywhere from $60–$70+ a bottle, but today we've managed to do considerably better than that!

We've just acquired the exciting new arrival of the highly rated Talenti Rosso di Montalcino 2023 at the very friendly price of just $44.99!  The 2023 is highlighted by succulent aromas of black cherries, plums and raspberries, complemented by hints of spice and cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, it is wonderfully approachable now while possessing the structure to age gracefully for another couple of years.

"A graceful and super-intense wine with peach peel, stone fruit, sweet violets and touches of thyme, pomegranates and red cherries. Its layered complexity is sustained on the palate by velvety, silky tannins, refreshing acidity and a savory finish. Medium-bodied with tantalizing suppleness.'' 93 Points, James Suckling

''Very pleasant aroma of ripe cherries, delicate notes of precious wood, some milk chocolate, fine minty nuances and geranium on the finish. Juicy on the palate, beautifully polished, very accessible, easy to drink, with a fine fruit driven finish.'' 93 Points, Falstaff Wine Guide

''No doubt deep and broad with dark fruit plus structure from a high quality Montalcino vintage.'' 92 Points, Michael Godel

''This is a serious Rosso di Montalcino that shows good mid-term aging potential.''  Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast Magazine

''The Talenti drink really well upon release, but even better after a year or two of cellaring. There’s a lot of depth and power to be found here as well. In closing, I believe that Rosso di Montalcino has never been better than it is today. It delivers a highly enjoyable expression of Sangiovese with Montalcino pedigree, with its zesty fruit and high acidity, will pair with nearly any meal imaginable.'' Eric Guido, Vinous Media

At just $44.99 a bottle, the 2023 Talenti Rosso di Montalcino delivers an authentic taste of Tuscany's most celebrated Sangiovese region at a fraction of the price of Brunello. Opportunities like this don't come along often, so we'd recommend securing your allocation before it's gone.
