Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2017

''A very attractive red with plum and berry character. Some chocolate and walnut, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with round, chewy tannins and a flavourful finish. 100% sangiovese.'' 93 Points, James Suckling

''This lovely red opens with enticing scents of camphor, pressed rose petal, forest floor and licorice. Smooth and savory, the elegant palate delivers juicy cranberry, pomegranate, coffee bean and orange zest alongside taut but extremely refined tannins.'' 93 Points, Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast Magazine

''Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is one of Tuscany’s most iconic and historic red wines. Produced in a territory in the eastern part of the region, Vino Nobile is a Sangiovese-based wine that is generally categorized as one of the three great reds of Tuscany.'' Tom Hyland, Forbes.com

''Avignonesi's Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is my favourite example of that perfect Tuscan. This is one of the top three regions in the world for Sangiovese, and is probably the best example of complex red fruit expression.'' Emily Siegel, Forbes.com

Avignonesi is one of the oldest wineries in Italy. Like many historic estates, the origins of this emblematic winery parallel the movements of the Catholic Church. In 1377, when Pope Gregory XI moved the papal residence from Avignon, France back to Rome, one of the noble families who followed him to Italy eventually settled in Montepulciano, Tuscany and founded Avignonesi. (That's today's history lesson!)
