Hi Folks, If you’ve enjoyed our previous offerings of richer, more complex Italian reds—such as the multi-award-winning Masso Antico Salento Primitivo—then today’s newsletter will be right up your alley.
We’ve just received a fresh new arrival: the 2023 Cielo e Terra 3 Passo Vino Rosso from Italy. This impressive blend, made predominantly from Negroamaro with Sangiovese, has well and truly wowed one of Italy’s most renowned wine critics, Luca Maroni, who was clearly inspired in his review:
''Here we are at the absolute top of value, in particular as regards to concentration. A block, a sea of extractive substances that determine its exceptional sensory performance from a quantitative point of view. Then the quality of the sensations, with the softness of taste’s enveloping effect of admirable palatal balance, the cleanliness, the clarity of the blackberry and the spices that increase in its spectacular scent. Among the best reds of the year, chapeau.'' 98 Points, Luca Maroni, Annual Italian Wine Guide 2024
This red also boasts an outstanding track record for consistent quality, with recent vintages earning a combined four Gold medals at international wine competitions. As a guide to the style of Cielo e Terra 3 Passo Vino Rosso, one of Australia’s most respected wine writers, Huon Hooke, captures it perfectly:
''It’s full-bodied, rich and balanced, with very good flavour and textural interest. ripe and attractive, with dark fruits and chocolate, tobacco, spices and a trace of blackberry. A generous, full-bodied red wine.'' Huon Hooke
As for me, I’m really drawn to its intense and complex bouquet, bursting with fruit-driven notes of plum layered with spicy tertiary hints of vanilla and licorice. It shows excellent structure, a lovely softness on the palate, and finishes long and satisfying. That’s my take!
