Renowned French winemaker Fabien Jouves has been shaking up France's established wine region of Cahors with the wines he makes from his meticulously maintained vineyards of Southwest France for nearly 20 years. His focus is making wines that are a pleasurable experience to drink and terroir driven. He is definitely respectful of, but is not constrained by past traditions for the region of Cahors or the Malbec grape. His Malbec is neither like the familiar Malbec's of Argentina, nor is it akin to the bold, tannic, earthy wines traditional to the Cahors appellation.
''Cahors and its prized grape varietal Malbec is experiencing a transformation in South-West France thanks to a new generation of producers who prefer a softer, juicier style to the traditional black tannic wine. The Fabien Jouves Malbec from young vines, is fruit-driven and deliciously refreshing, full of black fruit and spice.'' Christelle Guilbert, Decanter Magazine
''So drinkable in its deep flavors and silky texture.'' Jamesuckling.com
''Fabien Jouves is one of the best young producers of Malbec in Cahors in southwest France.'' Eric Asimov, New York Times
Indeed there truly is a a freshness and a distinct minerality in this 2021 release with lovely dark fruit rarely seen in wine at this price. This is Malbec at its most fun, filled with bright black and red fruit and a crisp juiciness that keeps you coming back for another glass or two. In Cahors the grape varietal Malbec is also known as Cot hence the name. It's so different from the Argentine or even other Cahors and that is exactly why we love it!
