Fitapreta O Iluminista 2024

Fitapreta is António Maçanita’s Alentejo winery, where traditional regional grapes shape wines with a clear sense of place. O Iluminista 2024 combines Castelão, Trincadeira and Aragonez with smaller amounts of Moreto, Alicante Bouschet and Alfrocheiro, grown on poor granite and schist soils. Hand-picked at night, the grapes undergo ermentation before 12 months’ maturation, half in French oak and half in stainless steel.

Fresh black-fruit aromas mingle with dried herbs, leading to a full-bodied, richly textured palate with a touch of toffee and firm, rounded tannins. Serve with grilled beef, roast lamb or hearty oven dishes. The producer reports 91 points from Beth Willard in Tim Atkin’s Portugal Special Report 2026.
