The highly respected Varvaglione Vigne e Vini estate from Puglia is one of Southern Italy's oldest and most decorated family-owned wineries. Having recently celebrated its 100th anniversary, we thought it only fitting to pay tribute to this bastion of Puglian winemaking by showcasing three of our favourite Varvaglione wines in a special Winter 3-Pack.

With such remarkable consistency across the estate's extensive portfolio, narrowing the selection to just three wines was no easy task. We believe, however, the Varvaglione family would wholeheartedly approve of our choices. This trio perfectly captures the quality and value for which the winery is renowned, featuring two of their beautifully smooth, elegant reds—the Primitivo del Salento and Negroamaro del Salento—alongside one of our favourite Italian whites, the delightfully fresh Malvasia Bianca del Salento.

Varvaglione Dodici e Mezzo Primitivo del Salento 2023
The nose is dominated by juicy red berries, complemented by fine vanilla notes and a hint of roasted aromas from the wood. On the palate, the wine is wonderfully accessible. Juicy, round and full of fruit. Ageing in American barriques adds further flavour and a beautiful aromatic depth. At the same time, a present but well-balanced acidity provides the freshness that a Primitivo needs.

Varvaglione Dodici e Mezzo Negroamaro del Salento 2023
Highlighted by juicy cherries and dark berries, complemented by delicate hints of vanilla and spice. Well-rounded, smooth, and wonderfully balanced. Soft tannins frame the fruit, which remains at the forefront, supported by a fresh acidity that invites sip after sip.

Varvaglione Dodici e Mezzo Malvasia Bianca Del Salento 2024
This silky and vibrant dry white made from Malvasia stands out for the freshness of its aromas, with notes of passion fruit, citrus, white flowers, and a slight herbal nuance on the finish.
